Safety Committee

The Safety Committee was formed after several highly publicized acts of violence occurred at local human service agencies. Safety is a core value for non-profits serving vulnerable populations in Allegheny County. The membership agreed that this is another opportunity for providers to learn best practices in safety policies and other interventions to improve safety in our facilities as well as support for our staff helping people in high-risk communities. The membership wanted to include those staff working in the membership agencies that have the responsibility for the Safety Committees, Risk Management, etc.

Commitee Goals

  1. Develop a Safety guide for our human service agencies:
    1. List of Best Practices
    2. List of core policies (or check sheets) to build a Safety culture (templates)
  2. Offer various Safety Trainings to CAP membership:
    1. OSHA for Non Profits (ensure all CAP members are invited)
    2. Personal Safety – Violence Prevention (maybe incorporate in DSP next year)
    3. Trauma – focus on our Employees (what does it look like, what we can do- more than EAP)
    4. Active Shooter – General Community approach. What to do at church or at a public event.
